Swine-Flu Vaccine

Will Your Kids Get Vaccinated?

The swine-flu vaccine is here and crossing the country.  So is the swine-flu, closing schools and filling emergency rooms.

Now that the vaccinations are available, parents have to make a choice, (or do they?) will your children get one?  The latest Associated Press poll shows over a third of parents are saying no.  The main reason given is fear of side effects, even though the Health and Human Services department claims the vaccine is safe and secure.

It was just last year the health department started recommending flu shots for children, now they are recommending a flu shot and a swine-flu vaccine.  That really is a lot for parents to come to terms with.  Special clinics at schools are being planned in many states because children are the major spreaders of this type of flu, and because the schools are being hit so hard in the early stages.  It is looking like you will need to be deciding soon, one way or the other.  You will probably need to sign your name to this decision as permission forms will probably be circulated.

So far the numbers look like this, about 9,000 people hospitalized in the US from the swine flu, and at least 600 deaths.  Children accounted for at least 60 of those that died from this deadly illness. (currently 86) This truly is a big decision parents will be having to make.

How do you know if you, or your children, have the H1N1 Swine Flu?  The symptoms are much like that of any other type of seasonal flu.  You will experience coughing, runny nose, fever, headaches, body aches and chills.  The swine flu can also bring on vomiting and diarrhea.  The biggest thing that sets the swine flu apart from other strains of flu is that these symptoms will usually all occur at about the same time.  That's when you know you are really sick.

The latest news about the swine flu is that it is about the only flu out there now.  If you, or your kids, have the flu, chances are good it is the swine flu.  Apparently the only difference at this point is the number of people getting the flu will more than double, compared to a normal flu season.

The vaccine is being rolled out but way behind the demand.  Chances are pretty good most of us will go the entire flu season without it being available.

As for all the talk of forced inoculations, not much chance of that without the vaccine.  As for the vaccine causing deaths or other types of reactions, this does not appear to be happening.

What are your thoughts about the swine-flu and the swine-flu vaccine?  Will your children be vaccinated?  Have they had the flu? Let's talk about it here or keep updated with the latest swine flu news.
