My oldest daughter was a gifted child. I think all children are gifted
but this one was labeled "gifted" and got to go to special classes in grade
school. Gifted or extremely bright children do require a lot of time and
attention. Their minds need to be constantly stimulated. This daughter went on
to receive a doctorate degree and has an outstanding career ahead of her, so I know they were right and I know all
that hard work paid off. My second daughter attended music college. She came
back from Boston a few years ago for a visit and brought me a CD of her most
recent class assignment. She wrote and produced, and along with over fifty
fellow musicians doing the tracks for her, one of the best songs I have heard
in years. To do what she did I would call genius. She has since been in
the sound room working with The Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney. She was a normal, overachieving child,
that we treated every bit as gifted as her older sister. Every child can
be gifted in their own way, why not give them the benefit of the doubt.
Treat all children as gifted and chances are they will become so.
