Green Schools In Louisiana

pencil and ruler Are you a part of one of the new green schools in Louisiana?  Or are you working hard to turn your existing school green?  Either way, we would love to hear from you, we would love to hear about green schools and green programs in Louisiana.

One of the first Louisiana schools to apply for a LEED certification is the Andrew H. Wilson School in New Orleans.  This school has just undergone a major renovation and addition and hopes to certify gold, meaning this is one green school.

Some of the design features include the enhanced natural lighting, the use of green materials in the building structure, the emphasis placed on energy and water conservation and the outstanding acoustics in the classrooms.

Green schools are designed to create a healthier learning environment for our children, thus leading to healthier smart kids.  Existing schools can go green by adopting many of the principals of the newly built schools and by teaching sustainability in and out of the classroom.

Parents, teachers and students can all get together and turn their schools green.  Clubs can be started where the kids can learn about compost, gardening and recycling.  Fund raisers can be started for things like solar panels and recycle containers.  There are so many things we can do to help our children learn to be the best caretakers of our planet as possible.
