Do your children attend a green school in Georgia? If not, have you considered working with the school district to help green it up a little. It really does make a difference in how well your children learn.
The Georgia Power Child Care building in Atlanta is one of those green schools. It is an LEED gold school which is as green as a school can be. This school has a steel structure with a lot of glass and brick. One of the key considerations when building this school was using materials made from recycled sources. The steel and drywall were both made with recycled materials. A total of forty percent of the project was made from recycled material. The other recycle consideration was with the construction waist every building creates, this green school recycled an amazing ninety percent of it's unused material.
The school also features a rainwater recovery system, an efficient HVAC system and plenty of open space. This school was also able to add transportation to it's list of environmentally friendly assets, it is located close to a train station and gives priority parking to car pools, van pools and fuel-efficient vehicles.
Green schools do not just have to be built green, older schools can be made green too. School green clubs all over the country are pushing and prodding their schools to go green. These clubs have bought and installed solar panels, placed recycle containers in halls and cafeterias, started compost bins and planted gardens and trees.
Teachers are turning schools green by teaching sustainable living and energy conservation. They are teaching this in the classroom and taking it out into the community where it can be experienced first hand.
