The first LEED certified school to be built in Delaware will be the Brandywood Elementary School, in the Brandywine school district. The construction of this school comes thanks to a nine hundred fifty thousand dollar grant by the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control.
Don't let the lack of certified buildings keep you from having green schools in your neighborhoods. Teachers, students and parents are working hard all across the nation to bring environmental thinking and energy conservation to the schools. Once in the schools the kids take it to the streets, to their homes, their community.
Green clubs are becoming common place in schools, and for good reason. They teach out children to be environmentally responsible and to also be community responsible. The activities these kids come up with is pretty wide ranged. From collecting and recycling shoes to handing out reusable bags in front of grocery stores.
