Bed Wetting

Are You Washing Sheets Every Day?

My nickname when I was a youngster was Big Chief Rain In The Pants, and I truly earned the name.  My bed wetting was a problem for years.  I remember holding my sheets over a bare light bulb hoping the wet spot and the stain would magically go away.  There is not much way to describe the embarrassment I felt, and believe me, if I could have stopped, I would have.  The article below is about bed wetting alarms, devices I wish had been around when I was the Chief.  Don't let your child wake up wet every morning.

Should You Use a Bedwetting Alarm?   by Shannon Lynn Miller

girl after bed wetting If you have a child who wets the bed, you should know that you are not alone. Thousands of other families are dealing with this same problem.. There are many different reasons why children wet the bed.  They can have a physical issue, such as a bladder which has not grown at the same rate as their body. Sleep problems can also come into play. If a child sleeps so heavily that they don't wake up to go to the potty, this causes issues. A bedwetting alarm can help with this.

Regardless of the cause for bed wetting, the end result is always the same -- exhausted parents and kids who are embarrassed because of their condition. While a mattress pad can come in handy as it will protect the bed from becoming soiled, you'll still wind up with dirty sheets and an ongoing problem.

There are a number of different bedwetting alarms but they all work on the same principal. They will get your child up at night when they have an accident. Eventually, children learn to recognize the sensations leading up to bedwetting and accidents are avoided. When used in conjunction with other effective bedwetting solutions, your child will learn how to avoid messy bed wetting accidents forever.

There are a few different bedwetting alarm systems and they can be divided into two groups. There are alarms which clip to your child's pajamas and those that use a mattress pad. Regardless of the type, a bedwetting alarm works by sensing moisture and then emitting a sound to wake the child up.

Alarms which clip directly to your child's clothing are often much more sensitive than a pad is. The downside to this type of product is that some children aren't fond of having the unit clipped to their clothing. A pad is good but it does take more fluids to react, which means that they generally do not react soon enough to prevent an accident.

If your child is having problems making it through the night without having an accident, a bedwetting alarm may be just the solution. Although they will not immediately solve the problem they are an excellent way of helping your child eventually achieve independence and save you the need to do laundry quite so much.
